Donegal ETB has launched its strategy statement for 2022-2026. It sets out ETB’s mission over the next five years to provide “education and training opportunities that help students realize their full potential and contribute to the social, cultural and economic life of their communities.”
A number of priority areas have been defined under three themes – teaching and learning; a progressive and responsible organization and working with partners.
The Donegal Education and Training Board (ETB) is the largest education provider in the county with nearly 18,000 students taking education and training courses with it in 2021.
It operates fifteen of the county’s twenty-seven post-primary schools and is a trust partner in eight other community and comprehensive schools. It is also the largest provider of continuing education (FET) in the county with over 7,000 students and apprentices completing their courses with it in 2021.
It also runs the Gartan Outdoor Education and Training Center and the Donegal Music Education Partnership and has legal responsibilities for youth work.
Speaking of the launch of the new Strategy, ETB of Donegal President, Cllr Barry Sweeny said: “I am delighted to have recently become Chairman of Donegal ETB at what will be the start of an exciting and ambitious few years as evidenced by this strategy statement.
“Implementation of the strategy statement will inform the work of the ETB which will be overseen by the ETB Donegal Board. We live in a time of great change, challenge and opportunity. I look forward to Donegal ETB playing its part in fostering education, innovation, tradition and creativity in Donegal.
ETB’s vision is to “transform learning – change lives” which ETB Executive Director Anne McHugh said, along with their mission, values and goals will form the basis of action plans in ETB offices, schools and centers over the next five years.
She said: “As the county’s largest education provider at second tier, FET and music education, our ambition for Donegal ETB is wide-ranging and passionate. We will implement our strategy over the next five years, guided by our mission, vision, values and objectives, which recognize the important role we play in the long-term development of Donegal as a great place to live, work and succeed.
