Free energy efficiency measures such as attic and cavity wall insulation may be available free of charge to people living in poorly insulated houses in Sefton thanks to a new program introduced by the Council.

The retrofit program will make homes cheaper to heat, more energy efficient and better for the planet. It will also help keep the properties warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.

Grants are available for private properties with an energy performance certificate of D, E, F or G. To be eligible, residents of Sefton must have a family income of less than £ 30,000 and / or receive a qualifying benefit.

If the accommodation belongs to a private or social owner, the owner will have to contribute to the cost of the work, but the property may still be eligible for part of the costs to be covered by the device.

People can check if they are eligible for the cheaper, warmer and greener home improvement program, using this form.

Cllr Paulette Lappin, Cabinet Member for Regulation, Compliance and Business Services, said: “This program is a fantastic opportunity for Sefton households to get free energy efficiency measures to make their homes cheaper. to operate, warmer in winter and greener for the planet. Plus, there are huge physical and financial health benefits.

“The Council is working to achieve zero carbon Sefton by 2030 in response to the climate emergency. We are working on our own emissions and taking advantage of this program will help our residents join us in making it a borough-wide initiative by reducing their own household emissions.

“I urge anyone who meets the eligibility criteria to apply for this renovation program. It’s open to owners and tenants, it’s free, and there are benefits for all of us.

Funding comes from the Department of Business Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) as part of the government’s post COVID-19 response and climate change targets.
