WASHINGTON DC- U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm today released the following statement following the successful vote to pass the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) at the United States House of Representatives:
“The House of Representatives just won the most essential piece of President Biden’s strategy to build a clean and secure energy economy: the Cut Inflation Act.
On its own, the Inflation Reduction Act is a triumph of scope and ambition that puts the American people before special interests. The law will unleash American ingenuity to deploy clean energy at a rate and scale that will allow us to halve carbon pollution by 2030. It will cut the costs of electric vehicles, rooftop solar panels and energy-efficient appliances for American families, unlocking hundreds of dollars in savings every year. It is making historic investments to protect and improve land, water, air and health in underserved communities nationwide, advancing President Biden’s Justice40 initiative. And it will give our national laboratories the resources to keep the United States at the forefront of scientific discovery.
By signing into law the Cut Inflation Act alongside President Biden’s bipartisan Infrastructure Act and the CHIPS and Science Act, President Biden has set the nation on the right track to lead the global electricity market. clean energy. If we are successful, the world will confront climate change using technologies imagined by American innovators, built with American materials, and assembled by American workers.
Of course, more than just passing laws, success depends on their effective implementation. This means that the work of the Department of Energy has only just begun. I am confident that as the American people see and feel the benefits of our efforts to transform the American economy, reduce costs, create jobs and strengthen our national security, we will build momentum and expand support to new actions.
The future is bright and it will be clean.
